My Journey with Upon a Story

It's funny how some of the best things in life come from unexpected places, isn't it? For me, my love affair with reading truly started when I was around 13… and grounded! Yep, no phone, no TV – just me and a pile of books.

Talk about a silver lining! At the time, Harry Potter was starting his journey at Hogwarts, the same age as me. It felt almost destined that I'd get lost in that magical world, and it really helped me grow my reading skills as I navigated my own teenage years. I became a total fantasy buff.

Books: My Constant Companions

Throughout all of life's ups and downs – university stress, navigating those messy breakups, the pressures of demanding jobs, and later, the incredible journey of becoming a mum – books have been my constant companions. They've been a source of comfort, escape, and endless inspiration. That's why I started sending books to others, as a way to connect and be there for them, even when I couldn't physically be present.

My Nana, who lives up in Scotland – 8 hours away - is a prime example. To stay connected, especially during those long, cold winter months, I'd send her book gifts in the post. We'd find ourselves chatting about the stories, it was during those calls that the seed of the idea for Upon a Story was planted: the hope that we could bring other people closer together through the magic of books.

From Personal Connection to Book Subscription Service

Inspired by those experiences and a deep belief in the power of stories, I created Upon a Story. The vision was simple: to share the joy of reading and to help others connect through curated book subscriptions and thoughtful book gifts.

Having my own bookstore with a cozy café on the side was always a dream, but being able to create a way for people to connect with each other using books is such a wonderful feeling. It's my hope that my community, and many more, will benefit from our unique book subscription boxes and carefully selected book hampers.
